The rise of efficiency of the conversion of metabolic power into
mechanical one during movement of animals under the conditions of oxygen
balance accounts for the observed decrease in energetic cost of
locomotion with the increase of the animal's size. As soon as the
maximum permissible efficiencies are attained, the decrease in energetic
cost is to be ceased. Under the conditions of oxygen debt, all animals
are able to generate efficiencies close to the maximum possible ones, so
that the energetic cost of locomotion in oxygen debt no longer depends
on the animal's size.

Рост эффективности перевода метаболической мощности в механическую при
передвижении животных в условии кислородного баланса обусловливает
наблюдаемое уменьшение энергетической цены передвижения с ростом
размеров животных. При достижении максимально допустимых эффективностей
уменьшение энергетической цены должно останавливаться. В кислородной
задолженности все животные способны развивать эффективность, близкую к
максимальной, а энергетическая цена передвижения перестает зависеть от
размеров.
